have been a fan of TVNewsday for as long as I can remember…probably since it was first launched in January 2006 and I have been an avid reader ever since. The publisher, Harry Jessell is one of best journalists in the business and and a super nice guy.

Harry and I have been corresponding about ways NY:MIEG and TVNewsday can work together…so stay tuned as they say.

Monday, June 16, marks the culmination of months of planning and work as TVNEWSDAY re-launches with a fresh and open look and new features.

“The new site is easier to navigate and more user friendly,” says Harry A. Jessell, founder and editor of TVNEWSDAY. “It looks much different from the current one, but retains the same basic structure and all the features popular with TVNEWSDAY readers.”

The home page continues to put the entire galaxy of TV industry news all in one, convenient place, supplementing original reporting with stories about TV broadcasting from across the Internet.

“The relaunch of TVNEWSDAY and its companion e-newsletters, TVNEWSDAY AM and TVNEWSDAY PM, puts a new, more intuitive face on news vehicles that, since their founding two-and-a-half years ago, have proven immensely popular,” said Kathy Haley, publisher and co-founder.

“Readership has grown 55 percent in the last six months alone, with more TV broadcasters and readers in allied fields, as well as university professors and their students,” Haley said. “The new look is designed to make the site more friendly, not just to avid, everyday readers, but occasional readers as well.

“The brighter, less cluttered design provides a significantly enhanced environment for our growing roll of display advertisers, as well as some exciting new advertising positions.”

New features include news photos and other graphics; an Earlier News interface, allowing readers to go back in time, day by day, to read stories published since TVNEWSDAY’s founding in January 2006; a Top Stories menu, featuring the day’s most important news as selected by the editors; and an expanded, searchable Classifieds department, which accommodates longer postings and display classifieds.

Popular returning features include the home page’s popular news summary, continually updated 12 hours each business day; the fully searchable TV station directory and industry calendar, the interactive stock market interface; and the overnight ratings scoreboard.

In addition to a new look, the daily e-newsletters, TVNEWSDAY AM and TVNEWSDAY PM, will, for the first time, feature clickable story headlines that take readers directly to the stories; a more prominent classifieds section and links to such TVNEWSDAY departments as Business, TV Stations, Programming and Technology. TVNEWSDAY Alerts will also sport a brand new look.

Philadelphia-based interactive design company Delphic Sage created the new look and upgraded many of the site’s operations and features. Short Hills, N.J.-based Redline Digital, which created TVNEWSDAY’s innovative content management system and maintains and enhances TVNEWSDAY on an ongoing basis, assisted in the project and will continue to develop the site.

And there’s more to come.

Even as TVNEWSDAY’s redesign has been underway, new enhancements such as a state-of-the-art video player and slide show, have been put in development. Look for them in the coming weeks.

The transition to the new site will require TVNEWSDAY to go off-line at 3 p.m. ET on Friday.
