Ed Koch Commentary: The Obama/Biden Team

August 26, 2008 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment

With Barack Obama’s selection of Joe Biden as his running mate, the Democratic Party Presidential ticket is now complete.

I have known and admired Joe Biden for many years, having served with him in Congress. While I have never met Barack Obama, I have come to know him through his speeches and television appearances during the primary and now in the ongoing general election. He is a highly intelligent and honorable individual. Read more

An excellent commentary from Kevin Kelly

An Evolving Global Industry
E.Factor Conference 10th September, New York “New Economy: Do or Die”

We are living in challenging times! We are technically in a recession, or recovering from it, depending on whether you see the glass as half full or half empty. As always, we can hole up or find hidden opportunities to turn an adversity into something positive.

Kevin Kelly’s brilliant essay on New Rules for the New Economy has this to say:

“As power flows away from the center, the competitive advantage belongs to those who learn how to embrace decentralized points of control.”

“As fortunes are made by training machines to be ever more efficient, there is yet far greater wealth to be had by unleashing the inefficient discovery and creation of new opportunities!” Read more

An interesting article from JTA: The Global News Service of the Jewish People

A religious Democratic convention?
Ron Kampeas

JTA News Service

Ed Koch Commentary: “Mr. President, Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick”

Ed Koch Commentary
August 15, 2008

(Following his tenure as the mayor of the city of New York for three terms from 1978-1989, Mr. Koch returned to law practice. His career in government began in 1966 when he was elected to the New York City Council. In 1968, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served on the House Committee on Banking and the Appropriations Committee. He also was secretary of the New York Congressional Delegation.)

Bush on how to conduct foreign affairs with Russia is still the comment of Teddy Roosevelt, “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” Regrettably, the Washington, D.C. crowd, including the President and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, are instead speaking harshly. They seem unaware that we no longer have a big stick in hand. Read more
