By Claire Cain Miller

On Monday, George Kliavkoff, the chief digital officer at NBC Universal, announced he would leave NBC at the end of the year to start, run or invest in digital media companies. Digital media is now a part of every unit of NBC and there is no longer a need for a distinct digital media head, he said in an e-mail sent to NBC staff on Monday.
Since George and I have been friends for the past couple of years I felt comfortable enough to email him, send my congratulations and ask if this development will impact our event in December. He assured me we are still a go and he is looking forward to joining us and share his thoughts.
That said, since this will probably be one of Mr. Kliavkoff’s last appearances as an executive with NBC Universal, we have already received interest from the press and media who will are curious about his plans for the future. Out of respect to my friend George, I have explained that they are welcome to attend the event and if they are looking for any “inside” information they are welcome to contact NBC Universal Digital Media directly.
So now you have it. If there are any further developments I will keep you all informed. In the meantime, we have informed the folks at Samsung that we expect a large turnout…and plan to begin registrations next week…I would recommend registering as soon as possible as I expect this to be another NY:MIEG Homerun!
