The recent one-year anniversary of the Open Government Directive marks an important milestone here in the U.S. and around the world. Much has been learned about how government data, if treated as an asset to be shared, can make a difference in the lives of everyday citizens. Now is the time to take these early insights, whether about the potential of emerging technologies tO make it easier for citizens to access and use data, or the relationship between open data and new models of governance, and organize them into a coherent agenda to guide future research and development in this area.

Internet Week provides an ideal space for bringing this conversation to the table and we have put together a panel of experts who not only understand the space but are creating the new rules:

Girish Chhugani: Senior Advisor to the Commissioner DoITT (NYC Department of IT and Telecommunications)

Theresa Pardo: director of the Center for Technology in Government at The University at Albany/SUNY

Daniel Sieberg (moderator). Sieberg is a national technology correspondent whose work regularly appears on CBS News, CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, BBC News, the Discovery Channel and author of “The Digital Diet: “The Digital Diet: A four-step plan to break your tech addiction and regain balance in your life” (Crown/Three Rivers)

(Random House/Crown/Three Rivers) Sieberg also contributes to Details magazine and other TV networks including BBC World News America, PBS, MSNBC, CBS Sunday Morning, and the Discovery Channel. He was the CBS News science and technology correspondent from December 2006 to February 2010 reporting for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, The Early Show ,CBS Sunday Morning , CBS Radio and CBSNews.com.

In conversation with Daniel will be Thomas Roberts, MSNBC dayside anchor and an award-winning journalist. Thomas anchors various hours of MSNBC’s live news coverage, and often served as a fill-in host on MSNBC’s “First Look,” “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” and NBC’s TODAY.

Roberts is an award-winning journalist, having received a 2002 Emmy nomination and a Virginia Associated Press award for his work on the documentary, “Parvo Puppies.” He also received an Edward R. Murrow award in 2001 for a documentary that he produced titled, “When Parents Don’t Pay.”
