Lisa Marie Presley: “It was an unusual relationship”

June 29, 2009 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment

Like the rest of the world, I have been bombarded by all the news of Michael Jackson. And while I do my best to keep a distance, since there is just too much to deal with, a couple of things I have found fascinating. For example the recent blog posting (courtesy of Jennifer Horn of “Doug Stephans’ Good Day show” by Jacko’s ex, Lisa Marie Presely. What is she really saying here and is this for real?

He Knew.

Years ago Michael and I were having a deep conversation about life in general.

I can’t recall the exact subject matter but he may have been questioning me about the circumstances of my Fathers Death. Read more

“Breakfast with Danny Meyer”

Thank you to Tammy Golson for a nice write up in her blog about our recent “Breakfast with Danny Meyer” event at Tabla (see photo of Danny, my colleague Trish Rubin and my favorite dentist Bob Sorin…courtesy of Veronique Verscheure)

Yesterday I heard Danny Meyer speak about hospitality. He was asked about food, restaurants and customer service but always managed to loop it back to Hospitality. I had it on very good authority that he was an excellent speaker, and was definitely left hungry for more. This restaurateur, author, business owner and New York mogul welcomed 75 people to Tabla for breakfast. He was interviewed by Dorothy Hamilton of the French Culinary Institute.

Ed McMahon: A True Gentleman

June 24, 2009 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment

As you can see from the photo, I had the pleasure of meeting Ed McMahon many years ago at a conference. He could not have been more of a gentleman…and is exactly what you see on tv.

From “All Things Considered” on NPR:

Longtime television personality, game show host and Tonight Show sidekick Ed McMahon died in a Los Angeles hospital Tuesday. He was 86.

Perhaps best known as Johnny Carson’s straight man, whose bellowing “H-e-e-e-e-e-ere’s Johnny!” opened NBC’s Tonight Show, McMahon had dreamed of being a radio announcer since he was a child. Read more

I have had the pleasure of calling Rob Prazmark a friend for many years. We met back in the early 1990s when I was working with Crawford Communications (Atlanta) and we were involved with both the pitch as well as the production and logistics leading up to and including the 1996 Olympic Games. At the time Rob was the President of Olympic Sales at IMG. A smart guy, logical thinker, well connected and great speaker, Rob spoke at an event I hosted last year and has agreed to join us at at upcoming event as well.

From ConnPost.com

Rob Prazmark is a Greenwich resident, but he may burst out in a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “My Kind of Town” if Chicago wins the right to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. Read more

Special thanks to Tommy Roy (Senior Golf Producer/NBC Sports) and Cathy Crowther (Golf Production Manager/NBC Sports) for  providing me with my official credentials for the US Open next week.

Tommy, in my humble opinion is by far and away the best producer of golf coverage of any network…which is part of the reason NBC’s coverage is so good…and 2009 is no exception. Read more

Just wanted to send along a very special thanks to Dave Campanaro and Steve Cohen of the Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team. Dave and Steve attended our internet week breakfast this past week and did a nice writeup on their blog “The Brooklyn Baseball Blog: The Official Blog of the Brooklyn Cyclones”

Call me a visionary, but I have a hunch this whole “internet” thing is going to be huge.

Steve and I attended a panel discussion this morning, as part of Internet Week in New York, that talked about building brands online. Special thanks to Bill Sobel of Sobel Media who set up the panel and invited us to attend. Read more
