A special shout out to Dale Peskin for a fantastic write up about our event on Thursday (November 13th) at Samsung. This was the first of what we plan to be many exciting events with iFOCOS and
We Media.

Many thanks to Bill Sobel, the New York: Media Information Exchange Group and bright-eyed and just-plain-bright conversation leaders at our first breakfast club discussion at the Samsung Experience in NYC on Thursday. Read more

More on Sarah Palin…but this is worth reading!

November 11, 2008 by Bill Sobel · 1 Comment

I know…I know…I’ve been saying for weeks now I am tired of all the press “Almost VP Sarah Palin” has been receiving…not only before the election but now that it’s over she is a total “who care” but is she? My friend and trusted advsior, Douglas Warshaw, just wrote a great article in the “The Daily Beast” in Tina Brown’s new online site “The Daily Beast.!

Great Job Douglas!

The press should have reported every time Sarah Palin refused to meet with credentialed members of the media. Read more

“SEGWAY® PERSONAL TRANSPORTERS LEAN TOWARDS THE FUTURE”

November 11, 2008 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment

From the day it was introduced I was fascinated by the Segway. For those unaware, the Segway is a two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicle invented by Dean Kamen. It is produced by Segway Inc. of New Hampshire, USA. The name “Segway” is a homophone of “segue” (a smooth transition, literally Italian for “follows”). PT is an initialism for personal transporter while the old suffix HT was an initialism for human transporter.

That said this Thursday, World Usability Day is being co-sponsored by UsabilityNJ the NJ affiliate of Usability Professionals’ Association featuring the new Segway. Read more

Who Cares?

I really try hard not to get to political here…but this goes beyond political…this is just plan stupid.

For some reason I have been on the mailing list of some sort of Right Wing/Republican website (yes, there actually are one or two) and came across the link here.

Haven’t we head enough of Sarah Palin?

Am I the only one who feels this way?

Exerpt from “Smart Networking” being released today!

November 7, 2008 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment

People have been telling me for years I’m not enough of a self-promoter (ha), I’m not good at getting myself “out there” (ha), I’m not good at introduing myself to perfect strangers (ha), really not good at connecting people (double ha) and most importantly I am a terrible networker (triple ha).

That said, instead of telling people how wonderful I am I have decided to let others do the talking for me. My dear friend and advisor, Liz Lynch, has just published, “Smart Networking: Attract a Following In Person and Online” being released by McGraw-Hill today November 7th. Liz has been kind enough to allow me to share an exerpt with you here on my blog with the understanding that you buy the book or else! Read more

November 4, 2008: A Day That Will Live In Fame or Infamy?

November 4, 2008 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment

OK…I admit it…I am a Ellis Henican fan. I read his column in Newsday, AM New York and look forward to his appearances on Fox News and Fox Radio…not to mention his occasional stints as moderator at those “infamous” NY:MIEG events :)

Once again, his column is right on target and today’s piece from AMNew York is no exception. (BTW, Ellis will be moderating our event next Thursday, Nov 13th entitled “THE NEXT PRESIDENT AND THE MEDIA; WHO’S IN CHARGE HERE?”

Historic.

The word’s been tossed around so loosely this year, it’s been losing some of its zing - cheapened perhaps forever as a political tool.

Yes, we know: Barack Obama would be the first black president.

Yes, we know: John McCain would be the oldest first-term president.

Yes, we know: Sarah Palin would be the first female vice president.

But those three facts, powerful as they are, are just a small part of the history being made here. No matter how the votes come in, Election 2008 really will rewrite the history books.

We’ve officially moved and couldn’t be happier! Thanks the the people at The Samsung Experience,  we just finished our second event at the new space and  the response from just about everyone was incredibly positive.
