I also had the pleasure of meeting with Chris Coyne, Managing Partner of The Coyne Group and one of the early investors in SaberSeven and their exciting new project dorthy.com Saber Seven’s initial project, Dorthy.com, filters social media and other Internet content based on your aspirations, hopes and dreams. Judaism is a religion that thrives on rituals. We light candles before the Sabbath, recite special prayers before drinking wine and, most inexplicably, eat Chinese food on Christmas. In her book “The Fortune Cookie Chronicles: Adventures in the World of Chinese Food” (to be published by Twelve in March 2008), New York Times reporter Jennifer 8. Lee seeks out the origin of the chosen people’s chow mein mania. Read more
What’s a Woot?

Just wondering if anyone out there is familiar with Woot.com?
A friend recently turned me onto it and I was quite impressed.
According to the website “Woot.com is an online store and community that focuses on selling cool stuff cheap. It started as an employee store slash market-testing type of place for an electronics distributor, but it’s taken on a life of its own. We anticipate profitability by 2043 - by then we should be retired; someone smarter might take over and jack up the prices.” Read more

Exerpt from “Smart Networking” being released today!
November 7, 2008 by Bill Sobel · 1 Comment
People have been telling me for years I’m not enough of a self-promoter (ha), I’m not good at getting myself “out there” (ha), I’m not good at introduing myself to perfect strangers (ha), really not good at connecting people (double ha) and most importantly I am a terrible networker (triple ha).
That said, instead of telling people how wonderful I am I have decided to let others do the talking for me. My dear friend and advisor, Liz Lynch, has just published, “Smart Networking: Attract a Following In Person and Online” being released by McGraw-Hill today November 7th. Liz has been kind enough to allow me to share an exerpt with you here on my blog with the understanding that you buy the book or else! Read more

October 17, 2008 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment
For those of you who know me, I am a huge John Pizzarelli fan and friend. John has a long history with the Sobel family…dating back to my days at NBC (when I first met John’s sister Anne and later her huband Jeff Hymes now VP/Production at the Golf Channel), John and Bucky performed at my dad’s 65th birthday (17 years ago) and at my brother Cliff’s wedding 20 years ago.
Sheryl and I have been attending Pizzarelli performances and they just seem to get better and better all the time! This year we are in for a treat…John is doing a couple of gigs in NYC…the next few weeks at the Carlyle and in November at Birdland Read more
