Ellis Henican: Uncle Ted, is it payback time yet?

January 4, 2009 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment

Ok…I admit it…I have my favorites…people who are close friends, advisors and people who I trust..both personally and professionally and the feeling (I hope) is mutual. I don’t need to name them…just check my blog on a regular basis and you will notice I use terms like “my good friend,” “my dear friend,” “my advisor” and my Rabbi (or shall I say Rabbis?).

Anyway, one of the newest members of the mishpacah (extended family in Yiddish) is Ellis Henican…Newsday Columnist, Fox News Analyist, radio show host (WOR, Fox Radio Network to name a few) and one of our favorite NY:MIEG moderators.

Henican’s column in today’s Newsday is one of the best I’ve read about this whole Caroline Kennedy For Senator business.

How they elected a Kennedy

Caroline Kennedy isn’t the senator. Not yet. But even now, it isn’t a minute too soon to look at the facts as we know them and tease out the backroom politics. I may be getting ahead of myself here. But believe me, there’s an awfully juicy backstory… Read more

NY:MIEG Event in Newsday

November 9, 2008 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment

Special thanks to my buddy Ellis Henican in his column in Newsday today (Sunday Nov. 9, 2008) for a great write-up about our breakfast event this coming Thursday.

RACING AHEAD: Guerrilla blogs, social-network sites, 24-hour cable, print, wires and assorted smashups of each: No wonder Campaign 2008 felt like a breakneck new-media-old-media-any-media collision course! But Brian Reich (EchoDitto), Amanda Michel (Off the Bus), Rachel Sterne (Ground Report) and Michael Oreskes (AP) will measure the skid marks and reveal what’s up ahead at “The Next President and the Media: Who’s Really in Charge,” Thursday, 7:30 a.m., in the Samsung Experience in the Time Warner Center, sponsored by the new-media visionaries at iFOCOS and NY: MIEG.

November 4, 2008: A Day That Will Live In Fame or Infamy?

November 4, 2008 by Bill Sobel · Leave a Comment

OK…I admit it…I am a Ellis Henican fan. I read his column in Newsday, AM New York and look forward to his appearances on Fox News and Fox Radio…not to mention his occasional stints as moderator at those “infamous” NY:MIEG events :)

Once again, his column is right on target and today’s piece from AMNew York is no exception. (BTW, Ellis will be moderating our event next Thursday, Nov 13th entitled “THE NEXT PRESIDENT AND THE MEDIA; WHO’S IN CHARGE HERE?”

Historic.

The word’s been tossed around so loosely this year, it’s been losing some of its zing - cheapened perhaps forever as a political tool.

Yes, we know: Barack Obama would be the first black president.

Yes, we know: John McCain would be the oldest first-term president.

Yes, we know: Sarah Palin would be the first female vice president.

But those three facts, powerful as they are, are just a small part of the history being made here. No matter how the votes come in, Election 2008 really will rewrite the history books.

Ellis Henican is a good buddy, a good guy, a helluva writer (for Newsday), Host & Commentator (Fox News) and one of our newest NY:MIEG Moderators (he did a great job at our “Social Media & The Presidential Election” event last week). His column,a personal, opinionated look at the news of the day appears in the paper’s front section every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday that appears in Newday is awesome.

His column in today’s Sunday Newsday “Voters, the choice is yours, so make it count” is right on target! Read more
