NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Bloomberg is looking at new opportunities to sell ad packages combining BusinessWeek and Bloomberg.com inventory, but the deal announced this evening does not, thankfully, seem to be a “synergy” play first and foremost. Don’t look for Bloomberg and BusinessWeek to try to sell deals integrating splashy ads, for example, on Bloomberg terminals.

Instead the new owners have a plan that’s basic enough to seem radical these days: It will invest in the editorial product at BusinessWeek, which will probably be renamed Bloomberg BusinessWeek, in the expectation that readers, and advertisers in turn, will follow.

I had the pleasure of attending the McGraw Hill Media Summit this morning and was in the audience for Jeff Zucker’s interview. There were quite a few bloggers and twitters in the audience and most people were not only disappointed by the lack of anything new but surprised that Mr. Zucker, the Chairman of NBC Universal, spent so much time defending Jim Cramer and his recent war with Jon Stewart. I thought Peter Kafka, writing in his MediaMemo covered it best.

Hard to imagine that NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker spends a lot of time thinking about “The Daily Show” critique of CNBC. But when he sat down for a Q&A this morning with BusinessWeek’s Ellen Pollock, that was topic A.

For the record, Zucker thinks that “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart was out of line when he launched a multiweek campaign against CNBC in general and Jim Cramer in particular. But Zucker had his own target during this morning Q&A: The U.S. newspaper industry.

Over and over again, Zucker explained NBC’s decisions about Web distribution, prime-time programming or any other issue by announcing that he was willing to embrace change-and that he wasn’t going to hide from it, as the newspapers have.

Her new book “Smart Networking: Attract a Following In Person and Online” has just been pubished and its going to be a winner!

Networking is not just for job seekers and sales people, but for any professional who needs to get things done in today’s fast-paced, wired world. With more information available than ever and more results being asked of us every day, we can’t do it all ourselves. We need the help of other people, and it’s the strength of our relationships that will determine the pace and level of our success. But no one wants to network 24/7, so how can we get 24/7 results WITHOUT the 24/7 effort? “Smart Networking” is about integrating the best of face-to-face networking with online tools that can help you leverage your efforts, so that you get the help you need more quickly and generate opportunities automatically.

Here are some action steps you can take:
§ Purchase the book on Amazon or BN.com
§ If you have a blog, enter Liz’s blog interview contest and grab some buzz for yourself (details here: http://tinyurl.com/6elpo9)
§ And if you’re on Facebook, join the Smart Networking fan page: http://tinyurl.com/6cddzv
